This writer can be a really nice girl when she sets out to be but just like the little girl with the curl in that nursery rhyme(I think I have a cowlick) I can also be very horrid.
By the way, lest i forget yesterday's story was pretty much Fact I left out most of the details tho'.
I am a natural rebel, i think I have been singing Bob Marley songs since I was born and now I like Muse (see the connection?) I won't tell you about how i flunked a grade in high school just to rebel or how I dropped all languages from my curriculum or switched majors after getting the best grade in my class just to irk my poor dad.
What I would like to tell you is that I am a rebel and I know there are a lot of you like me out there (if you are still in denial its okay too). I understand that rules, guidelines and all those do's and don'ts are really helpful but I still cannot help kicking against them when I see them. (I shall leave people like Jennifer Lane to analyze this behaviour)
I really appreciate someone telling me the do's and don'ts of twitter or blogging or anything else but at the same time the rebel in me says "so what? if I don't follow your do's and don'ts will I be kicked out of your exclusive club?"
Some days i feel like yelling this is my blog - it says my name on it and I will pretty much do what i want - rules spoil all the fun right? dont tell me to put an excerpt of my work up; I don't want to be laughed into oblivion and don't tell me I have to post my blog schedule because I don't have one and I am not convinced it makes a difference.
And just to contradict myself in the folly of today's post you tell me your fave rule that is a no bender or breaker for you - here is mine. Learn the rules then break them
xoxo
Joanna
and I swear this is not a rant
I will and have always ignored any and every rule about blogging. I post what I want when I want. It's MY blog. The very few times I've posted just for the sake of posting, I was mad at myself. I'll never schedule and I realize that it's been a few days since I stalked ya!
ReplyDeleteI don't follow any rules either!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm with you. I don't follow what others think a blog should or should not be. I do my blog for fun, not for work. You do a great job with yours. I enjoy it a lot. Now I'm going to go feed those fish of yours before I hit the slab. 'night. Or morning. Either way, have a great one.
ReplyDeleteIt's your blog, I say write it any way you like! It's always fun and full of comments, so you must be doing something right.
ReplyDeleteA rule I don't bend or break? Say please and thank you. I'm old fashioned.
Joanna, when I was climbing the ladder of corporate world I went by the maxim "be sure to learn all the rules, but don't always play by them". It worked pretty well for me.
ReplyDeleteA rule I don't bend or break? No foul, derogatory, or disrespectful language towards my children, and now my grandchildren. I'm old fashioned too.
For me it depends on the rule and situation. A lot of folks would call me a rule follower, but I agree that some rules are just guidelines. Now, if breaking the rule is illegal...I follow it. Also, respecting others and their property is one I don't break.
ReplyDeleteYou cannot absolutely cannot follow my blog without bringing chocolate. Exclusively for me (oh ok you may have a little bit!). And maybe treats for the cat! LOL!!
ReplyDelete:-)
Take care

What are rules?
ReplyDeleteYou write about whatever you want to write about and whenever you want to write it. It's a blog. And it's YOUR blog. Some people always take things way too seriously. BTW, you have to know the rules so you know what everyone else is up to.
ReplyDeleteI just read your yesterday's post. Your poor little grabby toddler! Somewhere in his little dust-mitey head he's going to remember this experience. Maybe you can work with him to help him overcome his fear.
Either at your MIL's or when you get home, put some tape over the thingie that goes out of the door and into the wall so that the door can't lock, even if he turns the knob/locking thingie. Then make a game of him being inside and you outside his room and build up the time. It might help him get over some of the fear.
I imagine you wanted to cuddle and snuggle forever yesterday - until he pulled your hair or something :)
Sorry this is so long. It's a two-day comment - LOL.
Hmmmm rules, yeah they're there, right? Anyway, I say follow those that make sense to you and you believe in and ignore those that others force on you. BTW enjoyed the story about your son locking himself in his room - that has happened to me before, thankfully a screw driver worked on my door and I didn't have to call a handyman to cut down the door, which leads me to believe your story is true. LOL :D
ReplyDeleteYou go, girl! Yes, I break some rules but who wants to follow the rules all the time. I spend way too much time blogging. I think for me, that's a no-no.
ReplyDeleteREBEL!! Love it! Rules? Meh. Suggestions I take or don't take.
ReplyDeleteHiya
ReplyDeleteI guess the bottom line is that blogs should be there for everyone to enjoy, from the person who composes them to the readers, so if everyone is happy with what you post that's all fine. :O)
I was so invigorated by your post I ran with scissors.
ReplyDeleteI've been contemplating this whole blog as brand thing. I've concluded that I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill. So, you write whatever you want, whenever you want. That's your brand. Being who you want to be.
There are rules to blogging? Since when? There should only be one rule; to have fun.
ReplyDeleteLOL you mischievous girl.

There are rules to twitter and blogging? I'm sure I've broken most of them without even knowing it, lol. The one rule that's a no breaker for me is Be Respectful. Everything else comes out in the wash but that's one I stick to.
ReplyDeleteMostly I try to pay attention to the "rules" of blogging cuz I don't want to intentionally or unintentionally offend anyone. You're a rebel, yes--haha, stubborn you, wanting to do just the opposite of what others want you to. I gotta remember that for a character in a novel...
ReplyDeleteI've always liked a rebel who follows her own set of rules. Thanks for this spunky post.
ReplyDeleteI'm a rebel too. My mother swears I oppose her just for fun. lol.
ReplyDeleteI believe in the rules to an extent, but I definitely don't think they're absolute.
Most of my faves to break are social norms: especially when they start with "Women shouldn't" or "Black people can't."
One rule I live by: Stop completely at stop signs. (Two tickets later.)
ReplyDeleteoh how I miss breaking the rules ;)
ReplyDeletei used to be a rebel myself but those days are left behind. Now I am more tame if I can use this adjective. But, it wouldn't hurt to break one rule or two, right?
I detest the word "rule." How's that? Rules were meant to be broken. Often. Go, you!
ReplyDeleteHello Joanna,
ReplyDeleteYou won a Stylish Blogger Award. Get your award at my blog.
Joanna, you are hilarious. You're right. This is your blog. DO YOU. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered who made up all these blogging rules.
What a spirited girl you are! I've always been a goody two shoes who follows the rules--BORING!
ReplyDeleteJoanna,
ReplyDeleteGlad to meet another Bob Marley fan.
You're right, it is your blog & it's fun to do what you want as it has your name on it.
I agree! If it's your blog, do with it what you like! I love the rebel in you, Joanna! Happy New Year, by the way...
ReplyDeleteI love rules. Probably because the unbreakable number one rule is: Elissa makes all the rules. So they're easier to live by. For example: Rule # 12 Any gorgeous actors named George Clooney residing in Lake Como MUST be kissed exclusively by loony wannabe writers named Elissa Graham. See? Who would want to break that rule? Rebels only dislike other people's rules - so just make up your own!
ReplyDeleteAmen, sister! The sooner there is an absolute rule about something is the sooner it's not fun anymore. I don't have a blog schedule either. Some weeks it's every day, some weeks it's once a week. Because if I don't have anything to say, why do you want to hear about it?
