Nothing Profound

It's good to be back isn't it? how was your thanxgiving?
Today is a good day in our house, it's the Hubs birthday. He got back in last night and we are grateful to the powers that be that he gets to spend his birthday with us. I have not made him a birthday cake but we'll have a shindig/thanxgiving dinner this Friday and a cake shall be in attendance then.
In honour of the celebrant I have decided to share one of his airport stories with you.

@ Cannes
So he is walking around in an Hong Kong airport, we are chatting on skype at the same time, and I ask him why he is wandering around, he goes "I need an outlet to charge my laptop battery, I might have to call you later if I don't find one soon. I'm not sure they have any power outlets here" I tell him to ask someone who works there but in typical boy fashion he wants to find it himself so I say my ciaos and ring off.
The following is an account of what happened after I rung off.
he walks into a cafe(still in the airport) and notices they have outlets, so he sits and plugs his laptop in. A lady comes up to him and says "you order, you order now"
Hubs: I really don't need anything right now is it okay if I sit here?
Lady: You order, you order now
Hubs: Listen to me if its compulsory to order just to plug my laptop in I will, but if its not I'd rather not
Lady: You order, you order now

nerdy hubs in his hot little body
and then she walks off in a huff and returns with her boss, hubs thinking the boss understands english better explains his request again
Boss: You order, you order now, if no order I call the police

So the hubs sighed and bought a green tea chai latte or something like that (I don't take caffeine so I never know all these names - please don't kick me out of the writers club).

I wonder what is going to happen next time he travels...
stay tuned.

  1. Happy birthday to hubby.

    Re: airport
That's not surprising. Even here, wait staff will try to run you off if you overstay your welcome after your meal. The longer you hold up a table means less money for them.

    Re: no caffeine?
Woman! How do you stay awake? LOL.

  2. He's cuter as Hans Solo.

Same question; how do you stay awake? I'm on Pro-plus and coffee for NaNo and I still want to sleep....

  6. My DH had fun yesterday flying to LA with a Diva White Boy With Dreadlocks who held up the security line because he refused to do the body scan thing, then threw a screaming hissy because he had to sit next to my not-tiny-but-not-500lb-husband. So they upgraded DH to first class. Hah, Diva Boy.

Language barriers result in some pretty crazy circumstances.

  14. That's funny. When your book is published, take a copy to the cafe and say to them. "You order, your order now or I'll have you deported to aggravation city."

  15. Happy Birthday to your hubby! Glad he's back safe n sound. I found the power outlet in the waiting lounge of HK airport for my L/T and we also charged our camera. I sat on the ground next to it. Because it was way next to the floor.

  16. I guess this was the only English they knew how to say. Happy birthday & welcome back to your husband, no wonder you waited Thanksgiving.

  18. Geez, where have the Ernest Hemingway days gone - oh, that's right, he ordered plenty of the hard stuff. Tell hubs HK ain't Paris where such things as ernest person hunched over laptop is a sign of greatness. Who knows that might be the next Hemingway over there at the squeezy little table who can't even coff up the price of a coffee (or cafe!)

Glad he's safely home and not locked up in HK. Happy Birthday to your dear hubs and so glad he got home for his big day!

  21. Very shagadelic baby! Although its a bit rare to find a writer not hooked on caffeine, you won't be booted out of the club.

  24. That's so funny that they are so rude! I can understand why they want you to buy something but they can at least be nice about it.

  26. Poor Hubs. Happy Belated Birthday.

I love when they get a supervisor and you swear that maybe it's because the supervisor knows English. But no, the supervisor is just going to tell you the exact same thing. Used to be annoying. Now it's funny as heck.
